Another use of this private IP address is that you can decide to assign it to a client. But, you have to be an administrator to be able to carry out this task.

There are two ways to do this. Manually and automatically. If you want to do this manually, you need to form a static IP address with it before it’ll work.

For automatic approach, the IP 192.168.100.1 must be done through  DHCP  which is very important. To the best of my understanding, to use DHCP, the router must be set up to include 192.168.100.1 IP to the list of addresses.

Let us assume that you start the IP address on the router from 192.168.1.1this implies that you can create hundreds of thousands of IP addresses within this range and still not get to 192.168.100.1 which is your target IP address.

So, when using DHCP to assign the IP address to your local network, it’s wise and advisable to start from 192.168.100.1 instead of 192.168.1.1 so that you will have a wide range of IP addresses such as 192.168.100.2, 192.168.100.3 and the likes.
